Tuckpointing or Repointing?
Homeowners hear both words and wonder which service they need. In practice they belong to the same family of work. Repointing means cutting out deteriorated mortar and replacing it with new; tuckpointing is the name often used locally for the same job.
Strictly, traditional tuckpointing also adds a fine contrasting line along each joint to make the brickwork look crisper. Either way, the heart of the work is identical: sound joints, a good bond with the brick, and a finish that sheds water.
